![]() ![]() This is why most people tend to think about themselves all the time. If you feel depressed, then your thoughts will also reflect that feeling. So, if you feel anxious, then your thoughts will reflect that emotion. Your thoughts are a manifestation of your emotions. The important thing is to realize that they are not real. It doesn’t matter what kind of thoughts you have. Some are happy, some sad, others angry, etc. Sometimes they are positive, sometimes they are negative. These thoughts are constantly changing and shifting. If you could see inside your own head, you would see that there is a lot of activity going on. There is nothing else.īut inside your head, there are millions of thoughts going through your mind all the time. When you look at a thought, you see only its shape and color. That means that they are not physical things. The first thing to understand is that thoughts are mental events. This means that if you try to control your thoughts by trying to suppress them, you won’t succeed. So, when you start thinking about something, there’s no need to worry about whether those thoughts will appear. You might even notice that when you don’t pay attention to something, it will just disappear. In other words, when you think about something, it’s because you’re focusing on it. Your brain creates these images based on what you focus on. When you think about something, you create an image in your mind. Thoughts are generated from emotional state and then manifest a particular worldview you want to focus on. This is how your thoughts are constantly being created. When you’re having a bad day, you might notice everything wrong with your home. When you’re having a good day, you might notice the sun shining outside your window. However, when you’re feeling down, you tend to notice more details. When you’re feeling good, you don’t notice much else. Or maybe you get so caught up in what others say or do, that you believe them. You may even start believing that everything bad happens to you. When you feel happy, sad, angry, fearful, jealous, proud, etc., it’s easy to believe your feelings are true. Do I need to think positively all the time?.How can I watch my thoughts without judgement?.What if I find myself thinking about something I don’t want to think about?.How do you get rid of annoying thoughts?.How do you observe your thoughts without reacting?.Living As You Master Watching Your Thoughts.And if something slips by, by all means, watch your words. At all times, in all circumstances, we have a choice about how to shape our destiny. To restate it simply: your life is about what you put your attention on. The origins of your destiny are found right here. You are not responsible for the thoughts that exist in your being you are responsible for what you do with them. Once you know this, there is no turning back. That is where the potential to do good or harm begins. Once you invest in it and then communicate about it, you’ve given it life - that is when is moves from a random stream flowing through you into the arena of creation. Your accountability starts when you make the decision to feed or starve a thought. You feed and nurture and give life to a thought by paying attention to it. THAT is where their potential to impact our lives begins. We can also choose which ones to pay attention to and invest in. At best, we can watch them, the way one would watch a ticker tape at the bottom of a television screen. Obviously, anyone who has ever tried to meditate knows that we cannot stop our thoughts. Given that we have millions of thoughts a day, the idea of becoming accountable for them is rather daunting, to say the least. Better to begin right now assuming that EVERYTHING we think has an impact - no exceptions - than to continue to randomly throw ideas and words around that may come back to bite us. The gap between those initial thoughts and a specific outcome can seem vast and unrelated, lulling us into a state of complacency and laziness, leaving us unprepared for what’s to come. The heart of the problem is making that connection between what we think and say and what eventually shows up in our lives. And yet, very few of us make ourselves accountable at the level of our thoughts and our words. You’d think given that realization, we might be a bit more mindful of what comes our of our mouths or spills onto the page. It simply and beautifully illuminates the power of our thoughts and our words to create our destiny. This little poem, attributed to various authors, has been floating around the internet for years. Watch your thoughts, they become words. Watch your words, they become actions. Watch your actions, they become habits. Watch your habits, they become your character. Watch your character, it becomes your destiny.
